Hello! My name is Kim Hendry and I am the owner of the concept on which Peekaboo
Design Group is based. It was 2004 when Peekaboo was ‘conceived.’ My husband and I had
just bought our first home together. We were trying to decide what to do with
our upstairs rooms. We figured these rooms would eventually be our kid’s rooms.
It was then that we discovered that we both wanted to keep baby
a surprise when the time came.
In the weeks following our conversation, I found
out that two of my friends who were supposed to be keeping baby
a surprise... spoiled
it. One was in her seventh month and the other was in her ninth month. They both
said the exact same thing, “I don’t want a green or yellow room! We had to find
out to get the nursery we wanted.”
I have three sets of friends with multiple
kids who kept the surprise with one baby and not the other. Each one of them
told me, before I was even married, whatever you do, keep the surprise
of your baby's gender. They
told me that there was no other surprise like it in the world. So, there I was,
with all of these conversations and scenarios running through my head.
I expressed my concern
to my husband, telling him I didn’t think we would be able to keep the surprise
and still get an adorable nursery. He replied, “I didn’t know we were pregnant!”
He knows what a planner I am and was just giving me a hard time, but I was
pretty serious. My goal was clear…come up with a solution before we have kids.
After a bit of research, I couldn’t find a company out there offering any
services that could help. The closest was a bedding company that would send the correct bedding after the baby was born.
Who wants to put together a room
just after having a baby? And, what about the wall color
and accessories? I give credit to the bedding company for
offering the service but, for me, this just wouldn't do.
So, I jotted down a few ideas and before I knew it, I
had a sort-of business plan. I wasn’t even sure it would work.
Then, my brother
and sister-in-law found out they were pregnant with their 3rd baby. My sister-in-law
agreed to let me try my new idea with them. Not only did it come off without a
hitch, but the process evolved into something so spectacularly wonderful there
literally wasn't a dry eye in the house when the family came home from the
hospital. With their beautiful new baby boy in arm, the whole family
participated in the reveal by unlocking the secured nursery and going through it
together. The personalized touches provided by Peekaboo made quite an
impression.
The
process went so much smoother than I thought it would. My husband, who helped me
with the nursery, thought the experience was incredible. He insisted that I move forward with my
ideas. I wrote out a plan and a date that I would leave the
television ad sales job I held at the time. I was shocked when the date came and
I actually did it.
That was August 2006 and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve
been fortunate to work with and learn from some of the best vendors in
Dallas-Ft. Worth. And, I could not have hand picked better clients. Each family
holds a very special place in the Peekaboo family. I can’t wait to add more to
the group!
If you had told me just three years ago that I would be helping
families get their dream nursery and keep baby a surprise, I would have said you
were nuts. Now, here I am and I
love what I do.
Thank you for visiting my site and learning more about Peekaboo
Design Group.

"The nursery board really helped me conceptualize how the nursery would look and
made me so excited to see it in real life. The process was painless and the end
product is beautiful."
