Born and bred in Dallas, of course we have to represent with at least one Dallas themed nursery design.
This design hinges on products offered by Lone Chimney Mercantile who offers an eclectic collection of one-of-a-kind photoart which is Texas inspired Americana with a twist (their words and we agree!).
My top three Dallas inspired pieces included in this design: Reunion Tower, Big Tex and the Mobile Pegasus. The Pegasus, for me and many old Dallas-ites, is a most nostalgic symbol of Dallas. My Dad worked in the Mobil Building downtown when I was young. I think of him every time I see it. Did you know it was once Magnolia Oil? Mobile Oil adopted the Pegasus after they acquired Magnolia Oil in 1959. It was originally their symbol.

We had to have a brick wall accent (faux 3D Wallpaper – peel and stick for easy removal, of course). This brick facade reminds me of the aging buildings in Deep Ellum and the West End.
I love a pretty walnut wood finish in a Texas space, so the crib, changing table and side table are all walnut.
And this rocker! It’s one of my absolute favs from Crate and Barrel. It may not be as comfy as the usual padded rockers/gliders, but it gives great style and could easily be moved to another room in the house after baby has outgrown the need for rocking.
The tilted shelves behind the rocker are to remind you of the Fountain Place building in downtown. You know, the building that makes you want to slide down the side!
Of course, every accent color had to be gold to bring in our iconic Dallas gold high rises seen in the intro of the 80’s soap opera, Dallas, every Friday night.
And, since every person who has NEVER been to Dallas assumes we have live stock traveling down the streets of our city, what better addition than a rawhide pouf upon which to plop your feet while rocking baby to sleep. A great homage to our rich farming roots.
Every time I’m away and come home, I’m reminded of how much I love my city. Why not envelope baby with reminders of what makes our city so great.
Don’t fret, Houston – you’re next!
